A Troop 13 Scouts Eagle Project
Dave Prokop, a Troop 13 Life Scout, spent the weekend of September 6-7, 1997 working on the 6th. Troop 13 Eagle project of the year with 19 Scouts & 14 Scouters and volunteers. He developed a plan to build a bridge across a ravine at Camp River Trails*. The bridge had rotted away forcing campers to walk an extended distance from one end of camp to another. He completed the basic plans for the bridge on his computer several months ago & has worked on refining them during the past several weeks. All of his plans were checked by an architect for safety reasons. He also had one adult Scouter do all of the welding & another drive the bobcat that moved the rock to the ravine. Dave supervised the construction & did the measurements during the construction of the bridge. The removal of the old bridge ( now just rotted wood in the bottom of a 160' ravine ) began at 9am on Saturday & most of the bridge was framed out & filled in by Sunday morning. One more visit 4 weeks later was required to complete the bridge. Many of the Scouts & Scouters who volunteered spent much of the day pushing 25cu. yards (approx. 44 tons) of erosion control rock down a 160' shoot to the bottom of the ravine. Also, several Scouts helped Dave with measurements and project objectives. Troop 13 would like to thank Mr. & Mrs. Rich Anderson for taking the digital pictures on the following pages. * FYI - Camp River Trails is NOT affiliated with the BSA, making this an Eagle project that was approved by our council. |
